授業の目的
/Class Purpose
This is an intermediate level business writing course for university students of economics.  Students will be expected to attend class at least 80 percent of the time.  Also they will be expected to complete their writing assignments on a weekly basis.  The class will be taught in English.  Assessment will be based on participation and completion of assignments given by the teacher.  
This class is related to DP4.
到 達 目 標
/Class Objectives
In this course students will:

-  Get used to writing Business English to communicate with clients or companies.
-  Practice various writing tasks in a number of different situations.
-  Learn new vocabulary and expressions in Business writing.
-  Practice skills necessary to perform tasks in a business writing situation (for example, tasks required in their future comany such as making orders, asking for or providing more information)
-  acquire the ability to successfully write business letters in a variety of different situations.

/Method of Instruction
On a weekly basis students will engage in writing tasks using business English.  They will participate in some pair work and give feedback to their peers.  They will get lots of practice learning the various components of business writing each
class.

Students will be required to complete all homework assignments on time.

Each class will include a mini lecture followed by a practical, structured writing tasks.  Topics for spring term include for example, writing a cover letter, replying to a job applicant, requesting a service, ordering supplies and so on.  
成績評価方法・基準
/Grading Method・Criteria
Assessment will be based on participation (50%), and completion of writing
assignments (50%).

1 Week 1 Class Policy, Goal and interviews with teacher Students get to know what is expected and get to know the teacher.
2 Week 2-3 Writing a cover letter Students learn about applying for a job.
3 Week 4-5 Replying to a Job Applicant Students learn about evaluating people's skills.
4 Week 6-7 Requesting a Service Students learn how giving detailed information will help retrieve an accurate response.  
5 Week 8-9 Confirming a Service Students learn conversely how restating all the details will confirm the recipients need to know there is a common understanding, in order to fulfill the request accurately.
6 Week 10-11 Ordering Supplies Students learn how to make accurate orders.
7 Week 12-13 Confirming an order Students learn how to be specific and polite even when there are problems with timing and schedule on orders.
8 Week 14-15 Requesting information Students learn about the 4 parts of an email requesting information.
