授業の目的
/Class Purpose
この授業ではディプロマポリシーの中でも (1) 実践的で高度な外国語の適用できる (2) 言語の基礎にある多様な社会、文化、歴史、政治、経済などについて幅広い知識や教養を身に付けることができる (3) 教養現場で効果な英語に関する体系的で専門的知識と指導法を習得することができる ことを目的としている。 In this course, basic writing skills and understanding of grammar will be improved. Essays will give practice in writing on a variety of themes. Since the class will be conducted in English, the ability to understand basic instructions and guidance given in English will be improved.

(1) produce a 500 word essay
(2) create a coherent essay
(3) write about various topics
(4) use proper word order
(5) use appropriate vocabulary
(6) produce a logical essay

授業の進め方
/Method of Instruction
The class will take place twice each week. Lessons will be aimed at improving writing skills. In addition, students are expected to write two essays. After receiving feedback on the first draft of each essay, students are required to make improvements and submit a second draft. 
履修するにあたって

Attendance and active participation in each class is mandatory. Students are expected to use only English in class.
授業時間外に必要な学修
/Expected Work outside of Class
Students will write essays based on two of the class units. Two drafts should be submitted for each essay, and students will be required to make improvements to their essays before re-submitting. Students will be responsible for all homework assignments in addition to work in class. Students should expect to spend approximately 60 minutes each week to complete this work.

Online assignments must be submitted by the due date. Any questions should be directed to the course instructor.
成績評価方法・基準
/Grading Method・Criteria
30% for 2 essays; 10% for Tuesday in-class writing activities; 40% for forum chats conducted in class (20% for participation, 20% for preparation and review); 20% for general participation. Essays will be assessed according to adherence to procedures and improvements made. Forum chats will be assessed according to the number of posts made and words written. Participation will be assessed according to the submission of documents.
